MINNESOTA ROCKS!! WE DID IT FRIENDS!!

We are Minnesotans who successfully advocated for the creation of a new Minnesota license plate that “celebrates the North Shore and Lake Superior Agate”.

The campaign sought to amend, with the support of the MN DNR, an existing public design contest for the creation of a new State Parks & Trails plate to “celebrate our North Shore and the Lake Superior Agate”.

Governor Walz signed our bill (HF3699) into law on April 29, 2026! Proof below that MINNESOTA ROCKS!!!!!!!!

What Comes Next?!?

The MN Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will conduct a public design contest to identify the new design by 12/18/26 for the “State Parks and Trails” plate that must “celebrate the North Shore and Lake Superior Agate”. The new design will replace the current design shown below.

For those Minnesotans eager to begin working on their design submission(s) for the contest, please begin by familiarizing yourself with the detailed design parameters outlined by the MN Department of Public Safety (DPS) which approves all final license plate designs before they are put into production. Our thanks to Greg Loper (pictured below) for sharing this technical assistance as the Vehicle Services Program Director at MN DPS.

Click here to download a secure PDF of MN license plate design schematics and parameters that must be included in all new MN license plate designs –> https://www.scribd.com/document/1031490829/MN-License-Plate-Design-Template

More details will be shared here and from the MN DNR once the contest logistics and timeline are confirmed. ROCK ON MINNESOTA! WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!
